Testimonials

Process Safety Management (PSM) is a cornerstone of a globally competitive and resilient energy sector. By strengthening PSM across Egypt’s oil, gas, and petrochemical industries, we enhance operational efficiency, drive sustainable growth, and reinforce the sector’s attractiveness for investment and partnerships. Embedding PSM within our industry culture ensures that Egypt remains at the forefront of safety and excellence, aligning with international best practices and elevating our global standing.

The newly signed MoU with Methanex Egypt marks a significant step in advancing PSM implementation across the sector. Additionally, our collaboration with the American University in Cairo will help develop a new generation of highly skilled professionals, ensuring a sustainable talent pipeline to support the sector’s long-term growth and global competitiveness.

- H.E. Eng. Karim Badawi, Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources

The integration of Process Safety Management (PSM) is a fundamental pillar in fostering a strong safety culture across Egypt’s oil, gas, and petrochemical sector. Prioritizing the safety of our people, the protection of the environment, and the sustainability of our operations is essential to achieving world-class standards. By embedding PSM into daily operations and project execution, we not only enhance compliance with national and international best practices but also reinforce our commitment to continuous improvement and risk management across all sector companies.

Signing the new MoU with Methanex Egypt represents a pivotal step in strengthening PSM implementation across the sector. By embedding robust safety frameworks, enhancing risk management, and fostering a proactive safety culture, we are ensuring the protection of people, the environment, and assets. Through these strategic collaborations, we are setting new benchmarks for sustainable and responsible operations.

- Geologist. Alaa El Batal, First Undersecretary of the Minister’s HSE, Energy Efficiency and Climate

PSM is at the core of Methanex’s commitment to operational excellence and sustainability. It is a fundamental value that underpins how we do business every day, ensuring the protection of people, environment, communities, and assets from Major Accident Hazards.

Since 2018, our partnership with the Ministry of Petroleum and Mineral Resources (MoPMR) has driven PSM awareness and standard development. The 2025 MoU marks a further step towards on-the-ground implementation, including the launch of a PSM Diploma in collaboration with the MoPMR and the AUC to enhance industry expertise. This milestone will support the sector in building strong PSM capability across its many entities that capable to develop and implement effective PSM systems.

I’m very proud of our collaboration as it reflects our shared commitment to advancing process safety across the industry.

Mohamed Shindy, Managing Director, Methanex Egypt

“Egypt’s Oil and Gas modernization program is designed to unlock the full value chain potential of the sector, and while safety is the first core value of the sector, process safety sits at the heart of the modernization program’s vision to further underscore its importance, as well as to foster the culture, norms and behaviors necessary to achieve zero harm to people who are our greatest assets, as well as resources, communities and the environment. We are proud of our collaboration with our valuable partner Methanex and we look forward to the adoption of Process Safety Management Systems to ensure continuous improvement in the safety performance of the sector.”

- Eng. Tarek El Molla, H.E. Former Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources

“EGPC is the parent company through which an integrated group of oil and gas production, refining, manufacturing and petrochemical companies operates, and then our portfolio covers the entire value chain (upstream, midstream and downstream). EGPC has adopted the requirements of the Process Safety Management System (PSM) and the US CCPS requirements as a means of identifying major accident hazards (MAHs) and thus implementing measures to prevent and mitigate these risks.

We are pleased with our partnership with Egyptian Methanex through the MoU signed at EGYPS 2020. This MoU contributed to the establishment of the Process Safety Management Steering Committee which in turn formed a Technical Subcommittee that oversees the preparation and monitoring of implementation of best policies, guidelines and practices in all of our activities (for existing operations and the future projects).

With the support of EGPC and benefiting from the 73 members of the Capacity Building Team, over the course of the 3-year roadmap, the Steering Committee will work very hard to achieve the roadmap objectives.

The steering committee aims for all companies to comply with the requirements of the Egyptian General Petroleum Corporation to prepare a Safety Case study that proves their ability to operate safely.”

- Eng. Abed Ezz El Regal, EGPC Former CEO

“At ECHEM we are very proud to launch the PSM initiative across Ministry of Petroleum and Mineral Resources back in 2018. Through our collaborative partnership with Egyptian Methanex we have managed to raise the level of awareness across the Oil, Gas and Petrochemical sector in Egypt by holding two main events in 2018 and 2019 with attendance of over 800 participants from the sector.

The nature of our operations and projects poses high risk to operators and surrounding communities. It is our responsibility as good corporate citizens and community partners to do everything we can from the concept selection phase until we decommission a facility to reduce process safety risks. This simply means keeping our process fluids in the pipes and having the means to manage any potential release through solid emergency response plans. We will continue to support the development of the CCPS 20 Elements of Risk Based Process Safety procedures as well as the Safety Case regime throughout our organization, ventures and with our partners.”

- Chemist Saad Helal, ECHEM Former Chairman

“At EGAS we are fully committed to the work that the Egypt PSM Steering and Technical Sub-Committees are leading to develop the PSM framework for the sector and are keen to start applying the developed policies, standards and procedures.

Established PSM systems will help sector companies control hazards and manage risks. The areas that the PSM system covers include hazard identification, process safety engineering studies, risk management, people competence, operating procedures, management of change, and many more. This program will provide us with the assurance that our facilities are safe to operate.”

- Dr. Eng. Magdy Galal, EGAS Former Chairman
